The Council continued to discuss details of Mayor Ralph Becker’s proposed Fiscal Year 2015-16 budget. Discussion centered on budgets for the following departments:
The Council continued its budget hearing, at which four people spoke. The Council will continue the public hearing to June 9 and will continue to discuss the Fiscal Year 2015-16 budget before adopting it in the coming weeks.
The Council discussed and approved a resolution pledging support to contribute a local match if UTA is awarded federal grant funding for the S-Line Streetcar in Sugar House. Discussion centered on rail ownership and rights-of-way. The Council plans to hold future discussions about rail policy, specifically the City’s transit master plan. The Council also discussed a possible transportation tax that could be placed on the 2015 general election ballot to fund projects in the County and City.
The Council held a public hearing on Plan Salt Lake, a long-term planning document designed to guide the City for the next 20 years, at which three people spoke. The Council expressed interest in adding a section to the plan on seismic improvements to the City’s housing and building stock in preparation for a potential earthquake. The public hearing was continued to June 16. The Council will consider adopting the plan in July.
