A Summary of the March 21, 2017 City Council Meeting

At Tuesday’s meeting, the Council considered the Mayor’s recommendations for federal grant funding. During the discussion, the Council also indicated its support for finding $30,000 for the Rape Recovery Center through the City’s annual budget process, since federal grant funds were not available for the organization. The Rape Recovery Center is an important local nonprofit that has a strong history of supporting victims of sexual assault.

The Council also adopted a ceremonial resolution with Mayor Jackie Biskupski dedicating $1.5 million for preserving Bonanza Flat – a 1,350-acre parcel located in the Wasatch Mountains that is critical to Salt Lake City’s watershed.

The Council also:

  • discussed homelessness, a 2017 priority of the Council’s;
  • discussed a budget amendment, which includes funding for additional stone repair at the City & County Building and a new Sugar House police precinct among other items. The Council will hold a public hearing on this item and take action at a later date;
  • adopted a resolution authorizing the County to provide election services to the City for its 2017 municipal elections.
